Hotel Cour du Corbeau is a 16th-century half-timbered former coaching inn set in a courtyard near the river in Strasbourg. It has hosted guests as illustrious as King Frederick II of Prussia (in 1740) and the Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire.
The Gothic Cathedrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg, situated on the Grande Île, is seven minutes' walk from the hotel, across the River Ill. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Grande Île is the historic centre of Strasbourg and features many half-timbered houses and grand Baroque sandstone buildings. We recommend visiting the Petite France area, where the river splits into a number of smaller canals, and the Barrage Vauban (15 minutes' walk), a 16th-century flood defence. The Palais du Rhin (18 minutes' walk) shows the German influence on the city's buildings.
The old coaching inn was built in 1580 and retains its original half timbering, as well as its exterior walkways and supporting beams. There is no restaurant, but a buffet breakfast is served between 7-10:30am (supplements apply), and the hotel also has a tea salon and bar. Cour du Corbeau is the number-one-rated hotel in Strasbourg on TripAdvisor, and holds a Traveller's Choice Award 2015 in the Top 25 Hotels – France category.
