More Room Types

Located in the Kasbah neighbourhood in Marrakesh’s old city, the boutique Palais Calipau is a traditional riad with only 12 rooms. Recently, and painstakingly, refurbished, it’s a luxurious hotel with traditional Moroccan features, such as gold tapestries, intricate lanterns and an antique cedar door.

The Palais Calipau is less than a mile from the Medina and Djemaa el Fna square, where you'll find snake charmers, open-air food stalls and the entrance to the souks, which sell everything from pungent spices to intricately woven carpets. The Agdal Gardens, which are filled with fruit and olive orchards, are also a mile away.

There’s an elegant saloon, where you can enjoy freshly brewed mint tea or dinner prepared by the hotel’s chef. The menu changes daily but might feature a 7-vegetable couscous, Moroccan orange salad or spiced lamb tagine. Dinner can also be taken on the rooftop terrace, where there’s also a number of padded sun loungers. Other facilities include a traditional hammam, with a massage room and a plunge pool in the covered courtyard.

Rooms are individually designed and each is named after a different place in Morocco (Fés, Casablanca, etc). Bathrooms are large, particularly for a small riad, and some have two sinks and a bath. The Essaouira Suite is particularly attractive, with an original, handcrafted ceiling that was saved during the renovation process, while the Marrakesh Suite is suitable for families and has a large living room with an extra bed.
