With iconic views of the Queen’s weekend residence and a 15-minute drive from Legoland, the Mercure Windsor Castle Hotel could hardly be in a better location for visitors. Guests will be a short walk from the town centre and across the road from the castle and gardens, where one stamped ticket gives unlimited access for a year. Also nearby are Windsor & Eton Central and Windsor & Eton Riverside train stations, the Royal Windsor Racecourse and the River Thames (a boat trip is highly recommended).
The town centre has experienced something of a regeneration in recent years and there’s a new shopping centre a short walk away. However, you will still find a number of historic fudge shops and quaint cafés serving afternoon tea. Windsor is also ideal for anyone travelling on an overnight stopover -- London Heathrow Airport is only an 18-minute drive away.
Back at the hotel, classic bedrooms come with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and flat-screen TVs with cable channels. Upgrade to a Prestige Room to take advantage of free contents of the mini bar and castle views from some rooms.
Downstairs, the AA-Rosette 18 Restaurant serves a full breakfast buffet in the morning, with continental and hot options. The restaurant has won praise from The AA Restaurant Guide for its British fare such as scallops and cauliflower purée, corn-fed chicken in a red wine sauce, and rhubarb crumble and sorbet to finish. There’s also a bar serving cocktails and traditional afternoon tea.
