Penventon Park Hotel is set in private grounds in the market town of Redruth, the centre of Cornwall's tin-mining industry during the 19th century.
The hotel is a great base from which to explore the area. Heartlands, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is approximately 10 minutes' drive away. It has 19 acres to explore, with state-of-the-art exhibitions, sensory gardens and a giant adventure playground.
The National Trust's Godrevy Beach is around 20 minutes' drive away. This sandy beach with high cliffs and dramatic coves is great for walkers. You may spot basking sharks, dolphins, porpoises and the large grey seal colony.
Porthtowan, Chapel Porth and Portreath beach are within 20 minutes' drive of the hotel, while the seaside resorts of Carbis Bay and Saint Ives are approximately 25 minutes' drive away.
The hotel's grill-style restaurant uses local seafood and meat from the Cornish butcher Angus Trotter, and is cooked in the signature wood charcoal oven, Bertha. The restaurant's decor is ornate, with antique frames, curious art collections, a grandfather clock, and opulent dark walls.
Gin connoisseurs will be in their element in the Georgian Gin Bar, which has over 80 gins.
Rooms are individually designed and highlight original Georgian features with a contemporary twist. Junior Suites are decorated in hues of blue and gold, and have Venetian marble-clad bathrooms and a lounge area. Ground-floor Junior Suites also have a patio or terrace with table and chairs.
Facilities at the hotel include a health spa with a swimming pool, a gym, a sauna, a Jacuzzi and a solarium.
