Built in 2012, the Wyndham Garden San Jose Escazu is one of the newer additions to this booming upscale suburb -- Costa Rica's wealthiest community -- just outside of San Jose. And like its surroundings, filled with high-end malls, luxury car dealerships and affluent expats, the hotel is modern and comfortable, attracting a professional crowd.
Guest rooms are simple and exceptionally clean. The immediate area is not prime for sightseeing or exploring on foot, but the location is convenient for those commuting around town -- there's free parking on site, and you can hop on the highway directly out front and be in San Jose in 10 minutes.
Having a car is convenient but not necessary, since there is a free hotel shuttle to nearby business hubs and neighborhood spots. A few minutes up the road, the Multiplaza Escazu is Costa Rica's biggest and most modern mall and the best bet for shopping, and along the way, a selection of trendy restaurants are worthy of any major metropolitan food scene.
Dining on site includes El Cortija, offering an international menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the Provenza Lounge for cocktails on the outdoor terrace. After dinner, the nights are generally quiet, and in the morning, a generous complimentary breakfast make it easy to head out for early meetings or a morning flight.
