A converted stately home that overlooks Dorset's Chesil Beach, Moonfleet Manor has stunning scenery and great walks on its doorstep. Set in the village of Fleet, a quiet spot on the Jurassic Coast, the hotel is a short stroll from the 18-mile-long beach.
East along the shore is secluded Church Ope Cove, a great spot for swimming, diving and fishing, while eight miles west is Abbotsbury, a picture-postcard village of honey-coloured buildings and home to a colony of swans.
According to The Daily Telegraph, "you will be well looked after" at this Georgian manor house, with something for everyone: facilities include a cinema, three heated indoor swimming pools, a sauna and sumptuous spa treatment rooms. The Mediterranean-style restaurant takes pride in using local suppliers for everything from seafood to ales.
There are 36 rooms, from double rooms to vast 2-floor suites in the nearby coach house. With two cosy lounges and a garden terrace, there's also plenty of space to sprawl.
There's lots to explore right on the doorstep, with the Dorset Coast Path and Chesil Beach -- the longest shingle beach in the world -- providing plenty of choice for walkers. Stroll along the beach to the Isle of Portland to see the lighthouse and sample some great fish and chips.
If you're looking for animals, the sanctuaries at Abbotsbury Swannery and Weymouth SEA LIFE Adventure Park and Tower are all a short drive away. The hotel is on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with cliffs and coves that are known for their fossils.
