Anchoring Kauai’s south shore, Koloa Landing sits on 25 tropical acres alongside Poipu Beach, which Fodor's notes is "the most popular beach on the South Shore, and perhaps on all of Kauai".
Its calm waters are ideal for snorkeling, swimming and body boarding on an island where "soft tropical air, sunrise bird song, essences of ginger and plumeria, sparkling waterfalls" and majestic views are the order of the day (Frommer's).
The one- to four-bedroom villas have floor-to-ceiling windows and large balconies with unobstructed ocean or pool views. Each has a full kitchen, washer-dryer, separate dining and sitting areas and complimentary Wi-Fi for up to two devices in each villa. Every bedroom has its own bathroom (good news for the larger suites), and there is an abundance of local artwork on the walls.
Torch-lit walkways guide visitors through manicured gardens and past cascading waterfalls to two lagoon pools. Additional amenities include a fitness center, marketplace, bar, putting green, volleyball court and soccer field.
The on-site Holo Holo serves tropical cocktails, such as Blue Hawaii, and features live Hawaiian music Thursdays-Saturdays. There is a spa that offers massages and organic facials and includes a Japanese ofuro soaking tub -- the only one on the island.
You can rent snorkel gear and surfboards by the Lagoon Pool. Those looking to unwind can book a open-air massage, rent beach chairs or join a complimentary yoga class on the main lawn.
The Shops at Kukui’ula Village is a five-minute walk from the resort. On Wednesdays, a gourmet farmers market offers local produce, handmade souvenirs and live island music.
