Located between Pisa and Lucca, Bagni di Pisa Palace & Spa is a historic property in the Tuscan countryside. It is a former spa residence of the 18th-century grand duke of Tuscany and famous past guests include King George IV and Percy Bysshe Shelley.
The hotel is in San Giuliano Terme -- a small village, six kilometres from Pisa and 10 kilometres from Pisa Airport -- and the hotel offers guests a daily guided morning hike among its olive trees (excluding Sundays). As well as its famous Leaning Tower, Pisa is full of Romanesque buildings, Gothic churches and Renaissance piazzas. With a lively student population coming from all over Italy as well, the city has an affordable café and bar scene worth checking out. Nearby Lucca is a fortress city surrounded by a Renaissance-era wall you can explore by bike. The Migliarino San Rossore Massaciuccoli natural park is also in the area.
The hotel won Italy & Europe's Best Hotel Spa at the World Spa Awards in 2015. In addition to a small natural cave with a thermal waterfall, the spa has a grand thermal pool with arched walkways on each side, as well as two smaller pools. Spa treatments include traditional and holistic massages, such as face and body massages, anti-ageing treatments, acupuncture and hydro-colon therapy. The hotel's Dei Lorena Restaurant offers low-calorie, vegetarian and Tuscan specialities, including old recipes once served to the duke's guests.
Rooms have original frescoed ceilings and views of the Leaning Tower. Deluxe Rooms have marble bathrooms and free Wi-Fi.
