The 6th-largest Adriatic island, Korcula is "rich in vineyards, olive groves and small villages" with a "glorious old town" (Lonely Planet). The island was originally called Korkyra Melainia, or "Black Korcula" by the ancient Greeks due to the dense oak and pine forests. "Korcula combines a hint of Dubrovnik chic with an abundance of natural beauty," says The Guardian.
Hotel Korkyra is in Vela Luka, on the western part of the island. Rough Guides describes the town as an "easy-going" ferry port, "with a string of sturdy nineteenth- and twentieth-century houses stretching along an expansive, three-fingered bay."
The hotel has three different room types. All have a safe and a minibar. Adria-Double Rooms can fit up to two adults and one child aged 3 and under. Mare-Double Room Deluxe is more spacious; you can request an extra bed at a supplement.
Facilities include a pool (open from May-September), a restaurant, a bar, two saunas, a fitness centre and a Kneipp hydrotherapy pool.
Hotel Korkyra has its own private beach, Azzurro, on the opposite side of the bay, and it provides a 5-minute boat transfer every 30 minutes. There is a bar and restaurant on the beach.
