Hotel Lord Byron, known affectionately as the 'White House', has far-reaching views from its hilltop location in the residential area of Parioli. Away from the sightseeing hot spots, the property attracts a grown-up, well-heeled crowd, yet the Spanish Steps and other Rome city centre attractions are a pleasant 30-minute walk away through the Borghese Gardens.

For a relaxed day out, rent a 4-wheel bike (extra charge) and spend your time exploring the park and its zoo (Biopark). The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Galleria Borghese are also close at hand, both less than 20 minutes on foot, and Aldrovandi tram and bus stop is just at the end of the street.

Fodor's calls Hotel Lord Byron "Rome’s first boutique hotel" and, with only 32 rooms, staying here is an intimate experience. All are individually decorated with floor-length curtains, vintage baths, Art Deco art and large French windows (some of which open on to a small terrace or balcony). It's easy to see why The Daily Telegraph says the hotel "does pampered, exclusive luxury like few others".

Try dinner at Il Sapori del Lord Byron Restaurant -- "one of Rome's top restaurants", according to Frommer's. The traditional menu includes dishes such as tonnarelli (square-cut egg spaghetti) with crispy bacon, Roman pecorino cheese and egg sauce and veal fillet with grapes, cocoa and a black truffle-flavoured potato tart. The 1000-bottle wine cellar is just as memorable for its collection of regional Italian wines and was recognised with an Award of Excellence by Wine Spectator in 2012 and 2013.

From the press:
  • "Secluded, elegant, antique-filled five-star near the Borghese Gardens still does pampered, exclusive luxury like few others" -- The Daily Telegraph
  • "Lots of sophisticated travelers are choosing this chic boutique hotel over old landmarks like the St. Regis Grand" -- Frommer's
  • "Rome's first boutique hotel and still retains much of that jewel-like charm inside" -- Fodor's
