What used to be a purely winter destination has been transformed into a four-season resort. After a $250 million renovation beginning in 2009, Jay Peak -- famous for its ski slopes and record annual snowfall -- also has a water park built under a retractable roof, with myriad other activities such as biking, hiking, hockey, indoor ice skating and golf.
The new Hotel Jay allows direct access to the on-site Pump House Indoor Waterpark. The ski-in, ski-out hotel offers king rooms or the option to spread out in a one-bedroom suite with full kitchen and pullout sleeper sofa in the separate living room. All 176 rooms feature unlimited Wi-Fi, flat-screen televisions and views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Along with the water park, the hotel has two restaurants, a coffee shop, ski shop, family arcade, fitness center and an outdoor hot tub open year-round.
During their stay, families can head downstairs to play at the Jay Peak Pump House Indoor Water Park, an impressive 50,000-square-foot glass dome filled with state-of-the-art facilities, including the AquaLoop 65-foot near-vertical waterslide, lazy river, a FlowRider surfing simulator, tube slides, body slides, kiddie slides, whirlpool spa, interactive play structure, arcade, snack bar, poolside drink bar and surf shop. The retractable skylight roof lets the sun shine in regardless of the outside temperature, and as the weather warms up, the park opens to the outside.
The mountain at Jay Peak remains the biggest draw. With 78 trails along with hidden nooks and crannies, it's apparent why this is one of the most popular ski destinations in North America.
