Fresh from a 2016 renovation, the Kimpton Hotel Palomar Washington, DC, is in the trendy Dupont Circle neighborhood, surrounded by restaurants, bars and shops. The Phillips Collection modern art gallery, which has "a small but exquisite collection of European and American works" (Lonely Planet), is a block away, and the hotel is a 5-minute walk from Dupont Circle Metro station, which can whisk you to the White House and the National Mall in 10 minutes.
The hotel has a large outdoor pool (open seasonally) flanked by private cabanas on the second floor, and there's bar service so you can order drinks and snacks to your lounger. There's a fitness centre next door (with good pool views), and guests can arrange for in-room massages, body scrubs, facials and manicures and pedicures. As part of the Kimpton group, the hotel offers complimentary coffee from 6-10am, and there's a hosted wine hour from 5-6pm. Other perks include yoga mats in every room and free bike hire.
The hotel's restaurant, Urbana, earns high marks from Zagat for its "sexy-cool bar scene" and "delicious" Mediterranean-inspired menu, which uses vegetables from the hotel's rooftop garden, while the bar serves craft cocktails.
The hotel's guest rooms were updated in March, 2016. Fodor's recommends them as some of the largest in town -- opt for a corner room for even more space.
Rates include a facility fee of US$17.50 (plus tax), which covers Wi-Fi, local and domestic long-distance phone calls, and a car service within a mile of the hotel.
