Macdonald Gisborough Hall is an ivy-clad country-house hotel in the North Yorkshire countryside, praised by The AA for its "richly furnished" rooms and "excellent" food. The Victorian property was a finalist in the White Rose Hotel of the Year Awards 2015 and holds a Gold Award from Green Tourism.
This AA 4-star property is nestled on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's around 30 minutes' drive from the picturesque fishing town of Whitby and the northeast coast, and is just over an hour from York.
The former home of the prestigious Chaloner family -- the manor of Gisborough was acquired in 1558 by Thomas Chaloner, an ambassador for Elizabeth I -- Gisborough Hall has 70 bedrooms, spread across the main house and the Woodlands Wing. The hotel's Revival Zone spa offers treatments (supplements apply) and deals on spa packages.
There are plenty of dining options: enjoy morning coffee in the cosy Drawing Room -- which has open fires -- take afternoon tea in the Main Hall or have a pre-dinner drink with woodland views on the Terrace. Once dinner rolls around, you can choose from the fine-dining 2-AA-Rosette Chaloner's Restaurant or the less formal G Bar & Bistro, which serves contemporary dishes made using locally sourced ingredients.
An impressive 98% of Travelzoo members who reviewed their stay at this property enjoyed their experience, praising the "excellent food", "exceptionally helpful" staff and "beautiful grounds".
