The Moroccan-themed CasaBlanca Hotel in San Juan is a quirky blend of old and new. Patterned tile floors mix with pop art portraits on the walls and richly textured fabrics are paired with intricately carved wooden furniture. The hotel is in the heart of the historic Old Town district, known for its cobblestone streets and nightlife. Like many buildings in this area, there are no elevators, so be prepared to climb stairs to get to the rooms. Guest quarters have four-poster beds, plush pillow-top mattresses and free Wi-Fi.
Walk outside the hotel to explore the narrow streets and colonial architecture of the area. A five-minute walk along the main road of Calle Fortaleza is Restaurant Barrachina, which claims to be the birthplace of the piña colada. One block east of there is La Fortaleza, the official residence of the Governor of Puerto Rico.
