The hacienda-style Santa Barbara Beach & Golf Resort is perched on the southern tip of the Dutch island of Curacao, close to the Venezuelan coast. Located just north of the equator, it is a good year-round destination, averaging only 22 inches of rain each year. Museums and shops in the capital city of Willemstad are a 30-minute drive away and the resort is 10 minutes from the bustle of Jan Thiel Village, on the other side of the bay.
Spread over 27 acres, the resort is one of the most remote on the island. But there are tons of facilities, including four restaurants, three pools, clay tennis courts, bikes for rent and a stunning golf course, designed by Pete Dye. The spa (open Wednesday-Monday) has four swanky treatment rooms, each with its own private shower facilities and terrace overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Set on Spanish Water Bay opposite the wooded Caracasbaai National Park, the resort also boasts one of the few natural sand beaches at this end of the island. The PADI dive center provides easy access to nearby diving spot, East Point.
Rooms are all large and smartly furnished, with marble floors and ceiling fans. The best come with balconies facing the sea and those in the separate enclave by the golf course are the most exclusive. Furnished with binoculars for bird watching and in-room yoga mats, they also provide access to a private pool and butler service (9am-7pm).
The resort charges a 15% service charge on all purchases and stays.
