Right in the heart of the New Forest, New Park Manor is a tranquil retreat just 90 minutes' drive from London. Said to have been Charles II's favourite hunting lodge, the property is now a boutique family-friendly hotel, offering fine dining and a sumptuous spa.
The hotel has 20 bedrooms -- some with original period features and parkland views -- plus there are plenty of places to relax, including the cosy Rufus Lounge (with an open fire in winter months), a snug room and a cinema room, plus a crèche.
The Stag restaurant caters for all palates, from an informal child-friendly day-time menu, to indulgent afternoon teas and a fine-dining evening menu. If you're feeling virtuous, there's even a juice bar located in the spa.
The Bath House Spa has a 16-metre indoor pool, a fitness suite, a steam room, a sauna, a hydrotherapy pool, a hot tub with views of the grounds, power jets, a foot spa and experience showers. The Daily Telegraph praises the spa as "one of the finest examples" of a luxury spa, and Marie Claire says it is "small but perfectly formed".
The natural surroundings are great for outdoor activities -- from clay shooting, archery, horse riding and climbing trees in the extensive grounds, to watersports and beaches a short drive away.
New Park Manor will be undertaking renovation work until 15 July, 2016, in order to create four additional family rooms above the spa and a conservatory extension. During this project, the treatment rooms are being refurbished so spa treatments will be in a therapy room located within the main hotel. The swimming pool, sauna, steam room and hot tub will remain unaffected. Disruption will be kept to an absolute minimum with works taking place during business hours and no works taking place over weekends.
