Set on five acres of gardens in the Washington wine country, the AAA 4-Diamond Willows Lodge is a romantic chalet-style hotel. The front doors are made from wine casks and the huge beams are 100-year-old salvaged timbers from the docks in Portland. It's located in the Sammamish River Valley (just a 30-minute drive from Seattle), where there are more than 80 wineries.
No stay here would be complete without trying the local tipple and fortunately, a number are easily reachable without a car (good news for designated drivers). Chateau Ste. Michelle and Columbia Winery are only a short walk away and there is a free shuttle service for those further afield. For beer fans, the small Redhook Brewery next door makes a good range of craft beer.
The area is also popular for hiking and biking along the Burke-Gilman Trail and there is an award-winning spa at the hotel. Try the lomilomi massage, or unwind in the outdoor relaxation pool. For dinner, the on-site Barking Frog is called "one of the Northwest's top dining venues", by Fodor's. The Herbfarm next door is also worth a look – it has been making waves with the local foodie scene with its 9-course tasting menu. Interestingly, the Willows Lodge gardens supply their produce and guests are likely to meet the two resident pigs, snuffling for treats.
Lodge-style rooms reflect the property's rustic Northwest architecture, with stone fireplaces, lamb’s wool mattress tops and desks topped with recycled slate in every room. All come with private patios or balconies and cozy soaking tubs for two, while pricier rooms face the landscaped gardens.
Complimentary shuttle service to/from within 7 mile radius , based on availability.
