The first luxury hotel on Cape Cod, the Chatham Bars Inn is still one of the area’s top hotels according to Travel + Leisure, whose readers named it one of the Top 500 Hotels in 2013. Condé Nast Traveler readers are also smitten, calling it "a little slice of heaven". The hotel sits on a private beach overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and is within walking distance of Chatham town centre.
There are a bounty of facilities spread over 25 acres, including several pools (one with an underwater sound system), tennis courts, a kids club (aged 4-12), spa with a Japanese zen garden and a 24-hour gym. Guests can also book sailing lessons, fishing trips, and a seal or whale cruise on site. Four restaurants serve a mix of local favourites, such as steaks from the hotel’s own farm, Lobster Rockefeller and clam bakes, and the varied breakfast menu includes buttermilk pancakes and buffalo mozzarella frittatas.
The rooms are "tastefully up-to-date" (Frommer's) and decorated in a homely New England style. Choose between accommodation in the main building or the cottages by the beach, which offer more privacy and space. The majority have balconies overlooking the ocean or manicured grounds, while swanky adult-only spa suites come with hydrotherapy tubs, saunas, steam showers and fireplaces.
There is a resort fee of $10 per room, per night, which covers valet parking, Wi-Fi, coffee, newspapers, access to the fitness room and the shuttle to Chatham. During high season (14 June-1 September) the resort fee is $22 and includes a boat shuttle service to the barrier beach.
