The 4-star St George Palace, in southwest Bulgaria, is 700 metres from the Bansko gondola to take you up to the slopes. There's also a free shuttle bus during the ski season from the hotel to the gondola and into Bansko town centre -- the first leaves at 8am, running every 30 minutes thereafter. There are two bars, including the Sky Bar with mountain views.
All guests get access to the spa centre, which has a gym, a sauna, a Turkish bath, a Jacuzzi and an indoor swimming pool.
The ski season runs until mid-April and Bansko offers 70km of downhill runs, 5km of cross-country skiing tracks, ice skating and a healthy selection of après-ski bars. Once the snow has melted, the mountain is a haven of hiking, golf, white-water rafting and horse riding.
