There aren't many countries on Earth where you can kayak in a fiord, hike a volcano, trek through a rainforest, relax on a beach, admire geysers and bubbling mud pools, and enjoy a night out in a cosmopolitan city, all in a 3-week holiday. This £2535-per-person deal from G Adventures allows you to do just that, ticking off both the north and south islands of New Zealand, and saves 10% on the usual price.
Depart from London Heathrow on select dates from 1 March-31 May.
The holiday begins in Auckland with a free day to explore the city. You'll then spend two nights on the west coast in Raglan, where you will have a surfing lesson. The next stop is Rotorua, famous for its volcanic mud pools and geysers, and strong sulphur scent. In the evening you'll attend a Maori cultural experience.
Next day, you will travel south to the Tongariro National Park to walk the 12-mile Tongariro Crossing, where you can see craters, emerald lakes and hot springs. On day six, you'll drive to Wellington, New Zealand's capital, where you'll visit the Te Papa museum, which has displays of art and Maori artefacts.
You'll take the ferry across the Cook Strait to South Island, for two nights in the stunning Abel Tasman National Park. On day nine you'll arrive at Punakaiki, home to the famous "pancake" rock formations and a seal colony.
You'll then spend two nights at Franz Josef, where you have the option to hike the 12-kilometre-long Franz Josef glacier, take a helicopter ride or go kayaking on a local "mirror lake"***. On day 12 you'll arrive in Queenstown, New Zealand's adventure capital, for a 3-night stay. Activities on offer here include bungee jumping, canyon swings, white-water rafting and zip-lining***.
Next, you'll pass through Fiordland National Park on your way to Doubtful Sound for a rainforest bush walk, an overnight stay and a scenic kayaking excursion. You'll then drive to Central Otago, where you'll cycle along 35 kilometres of the Otago Rail Trail.
Next stop is Christchurch, where you'll stay the night and have a free afternoon to explore the city -- we recommend heading to the Botanic Gardens, or visiting the local shops creatively rebuilt in colourful shipping containers. The penultimate stop is Kaikoura, where whale-watching trips are available***. The next day, you'll catch the ferry back to Wellington for the final night of the trip.
