The tour starts in neon-bright Tokyo, where "even at its densest", says The Guardian, "the city can suddenly shrink from tower blocks to tiny temples and tofu-makers". Explore the capital's history and culture with a guided tour of the Buddhist temple Senso-ji and the Nakamise shopping street, before heading to the upmarket Ginza district.
Tokyo is also "a nirvana for foodies", says The Daily Telegraph. Although Japan's capital has the world's highest total of Michelin stars of any city, The Guardian notes that "street-food culture is also flourishing". Our top dishes are okonomiyaki pancakes, yakitori (meat skewers) and steaming bowls of ramen for those on a budget.
Your next stop will be Mount Fuji. The bus will climb to the fifth station (7550ft above sea level) for views across the surrounding area. You'll then take the Komagatake ropeway aerial tram, followed by a cruise on Lake Ashi, which lies within the volcanic crater of Mount Hakone.
You'll then travel to the former imperial capital of Kyoto, home to numerous UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Nijo Castle, Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion) and Kiyomizu Temple. You'll then head back to Tokyo for one night at your own leisure before your return flight.
