The festive season is one of the best times to visit Thailand, so we were surprised to find a 12-night twin-centre holiday over Christmas and New Year for £450 less than usual. Visit Bangkok and Pattaya when there's less rain, less humidity and it's far hotter than the UK, for £1195 per person.
Here's what's included:
The trip starts in Bangkok, recently voted the number one city in Asia by Condé Nast Traveler readers. Lonely Planet recommends getting "lost in the tiny lanes of Chinatown" -- where you might "come face to face with a live Chinese opera performance" -- eating street food and travelling in a long-tail boat along the river.
As well as an outdoor pool, the Ambassador Hotel has eight dining options (including a dim sum restaurant) and a spa with hot tubs, a sauna and steam rooms. The nearest BTS Skytrain Station is 100 metres away.
Pattaya is on the Gulf of Thailand's east coast; the ibis Pattaya is at the centre of the city but close to the beach. Take a dip in the outdoor pool, rent a bike to explore Pattaya or sample contemporary Thai cuisine at the hotel's restaurant.
Depart on 19 December.
For the same price, depart on 23 December and stay three nights in Bangkok and seven nights in Pattaya. Alternatively, depart on 17 December for £1249 per person, with three nights in Bangkok and 11 nights in Pattaya.
Solo travellers can take advantage of this offer for £1569 per person on 19 and 23 December; and £1629 on 17 December.
