"An endless parade of wildlife, fine diving, good food and cool hotels -- the pristine paradise of Costa Rica has them all," says Condé Nast Traveller. Most people come to this Central American gem for the stunning white beaches, as well as the natural beauty inland. Happily, you can explore both on this 11-night tour from British Travel Award-winners The Holiday Place for £1299 per person -- that's £1000 less than usual.

The trip starts in San José -- "a stay in the capital is essential to understand Costa Rican culture", says The Independent. The included tour takes in the Sabana Park, the historic National Theatre, a selection of museums and the Supreme Court.
Then, head to Monteverde, 4662 feet above sea level and home to nature reserves, pumas, jaguars and thousands of plant and tree species. The El Establo Mountain Hotel is in the cloud forest and has two restaurants and a spa -- from here, you'll take the Sky Walk, which spans six suspension bridges through the rainforest canopy.
The next stop is Guachipelín and the Hotel Hacienda, at the foot of the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano. This stage includes a visit to nearby Rio Negro and its six thermal pools, filled with natural water from the volcanic hot springs. You'll finish in Tamarindo on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. The Hotel Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort is set on a white-sand beach and has eight restaurants and bars, as well as four swimming pools, tennis courts and a casino.
