It's not often we see deals to Oman, a place described by Condé Nast Traveller as a "luxurious travel destination, combining the traditional values of an ancient civilisation with up-to-date luxury". Even rarer is a deal to Oman with a stay in a 5-star Shangri-La resort, but Western & Oriental has knocked up to £179 off a 4-night escape, bringing the price as low as an appealing £615.
The offer includes four nights' accommodation, daily breakfast and return flights, plus checked luggage.
You'll stay at the Al Waha Hotel, part of the Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa. Facilities include a fitness centre, tennis courts, a scuba diving centre, three swimming pools, a spa and a lazy river. There's also a full schedule of free activities, from water polo to turtle talks on the private beach.
The 11 on-site restaurants showcase a variety of cuisines, including Latin American food prepared in an open kitchen, Middle Eastern mezze and freshly caught seafood cooked on the beach.
The family-friendly resort was named Oman's Leading Spa Resort at the 2011 World Travel Awards and best beach hotel in The Daily Telegraph's Ultratravel 100 awards in 2013. The Chi spa is the largest in Oman.
Reached by a tunnel that snakes through the mountains, the hotel faces the Oman Sea and is a 15-minute drive from Old Muscat, which has a harbour, medieval forts and a gold-leafed palace. We recommend taking a walk around the 16th-century walls for the best views of the city.
