With a saving of £1000, this 12-night South African trip of a lifetime has it all -- a Cape Town city break, a full-board stay at a safari lodge and 10 days' car hire to explore the scenic Garden Route and Stellenbosch winelands.

Now £1499 per person, the holiday includes the following 4- and 5-star accommodation along the way:

  • Three nights at the Cape Town Hollow Boutique Hotel, on a B&B basis
  • One night at Auberge Burgundy, Hermanus, Western Cape, on a B&B basis
  • Two nights at Knysna Hollow Country Estate, Western Cape, on a B&B basis
  • Three nights at Kuzuko Lodge, on a full-board basis including six game drives
  • Two nights at Queen's Hotel, Oudtshoorn, Western Cape, on a B&B basis
  • One night at Protea Dorpshuis Hotel, Stellenbosch, on a B&B basis

The trip kicks off with a city break in Cape Town, staying close to attractions including the V&A Waterfront and Table Mountain, followed by a self-drive road trip along South Africa's Garden Route, described by The Independent as "a breathtakingly beautiful natural playground".

The itinerary features stops in the heart of the winelands, passing ostrich farms, whale-watching spots and stunning beaches along the way. The 3-night stay at the luxury malaria-free Kuzuko Lodge includes game drives across Addo Elephant National Park -- a great opportunity to spot the Big Five: rhinos, lions, elephants, Cape buffalo and leopards.

Depart from London Gatwick or Heathrow on select dates from 16 April-15 July; 1-30 September. The offer includes a checked luggage allowance of 23kg per person.

Travel from 1 March-15 April; 16 July-31 August or 1-31 October for an extra £200 per person. It's an extra £300 per person to travel 1 November-10 December or 1 January-31 March, 2014.

Add on a 3-night 5-star Dubai stay on a bed-and-breakfast basis from £149 per person. A deluxe option with upgraded hotels is available for an extra £349 per person.
