If there's one stereotype that tends to be true about the British, it's that we flock to Spain like moths to a flame. Anyone who's ever experienced a British "summer" of rain and cold weather can tell you that the best solution to this problem is to leave the country.
So, why Spain, you might ask?
Well, for one, it's a bargain getaway. Being our closest neighbour to the south means that low-cost carriers will get you there cheaply and city breaks to Spain will barely creak open your wallet. Be sure to check the Europe Flights section or Spain & Portugal Holidays section for great deals.
Once you land there, you've got to eat. And you're in luck as the food is absolutely amazing. In fact, Girona's El Celler de Can Roca was recently named the World's Best Restaurant in the annual awards sponsored by San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, knocking Copenhagen's noma from the top spot after three consecutive years. There are three Spanish restaurants in the Top 10 alone, with two San Sebastian restaurants taking fourth and eighth place.
In between sipping (okay, chugging) sangria and scarfing down tapas, you'll have plenty of time to explore local attractions or get some warmth in your bones with a siesta on the beach -- and what glorious beaches they are. Costa del Sol literally means Sunshine Coast, so what more do you need? Forget about the fake tan -- get your beach towel and head to Spain!
