Last Saturday saw the beginning of National Cruise Week, an annual event now in its fifth year. This year, the theme is afternoon tea, with hundreds of cruise agents and travel companies hosting scone-, jam- and cream-filled events to get Britain talking about cruise.
To celebrate, Travelzoo has put together a special page, featuring some of the best offers in the market. Deals range from a Christmas mini cruise to northern Spain and a week-long sailing to the Red Sea to a 20-night Holy Land and Mediterranean cruise that saves up to £800.
The industry has good reason to celebrate, with figures from a recent UKGov survey showing the UK is the second largest cruise market in the world. Combined stats from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), the European Cruise Council, the Passenger Shipping Association and the International Cruise Council Australasia also show that an impressive 1,700,000 Brits went on a cruise last year -- that’s 9% more than in 2010.
Speaking of the increase, Christine Duffy, President and CEO of CLIA, said, "The latest statistics clearly show that the cruise industry has proved resilient during difficult economic conditions and these results are a testament to the industry's ongoing innovation and investment".
