UK Tourism on the Up

Overseas tourists and Brits alike can’t get enough of holidaying in the UK. In fact, according to the government’s International Passenger Survey, 77% of the 30 million foreign tourists who visited Britain in 2009 had travelled here before. The survey found the most loyal visitors were from Luxembourg, with 96% coming back for a repeat trip. Ireland and the United Arab Emirates followed, with 95% and 92%.

And with the London 2012 Olympics and next year’s royal wedding, visitors both old and new are set to keep rising.

The staycation is also continuing to rise in popularity; the number of Brits who holiday at home has risen dramatically since 2008, according to VisitEngland’s latest UK Tourism Survey.

Experts say this trend is partly down to the uncertainty that has surrounded travel this year – from airline strikes to the volcanic ash cloud – but another reason the Great British Staycation is on the up is the fantastic UK hotel and holiday offers around at the moment. We’ve found great deals for everything from stylish city hotels and country retreats to hot offers on the coast. Or click here to see some great UK breaks.
