Here at Travelzoo we are seeing more and more summer deals to less conventional holiday spots, often at incredible prices. If you do fancy going somewhere a bit different or off the beaten track, why not consider one of these destinations?
With "snow-capped peaks, turquoise-green rivers and an Adriatic coastline inspired by Venice" (Lonely Planet), as well as temperatures of up to 25°C in the summer, Slovenia is ideal for anyone who loves the outdoors. We recently ran a deal to (the somewhat ominously named) Lake Bled, a destination with "all the appeal of a short break in Switzerland, without the high prices", says The Telegraph.
Until quite recently I knew next to nothing about The Gambia. However, after a week-long stint there earlier this year, I am now a complete advocate of this wonderful, small country. With sunshine galore, clean sandy beaches, cheap food and drink, bags of history and beautiful wildlife spots, The Gambia really ticks lots of boxes on the holiday wish list. Plus, it's the same time zone and only a 6-hour flight away.
If you're in need of something cheap, then Bulgaria is a good option: it ranked sixth cheapest on the Post Office's Worldwide Holiday Costs Barometer. The Black Sea coast -- called a "natural wonder" by Fodor's -- boasts approximately 80 miles of sandy beach and temperatures hover around the mid 20s°C until October.
