For the third year in a row Sri Lanka has been named the best-value destination for British holiday-makers in the Post Office Long Haul Holiday Report.
The report, now in its third year, charts the relative cost of visiting 32 long-haul destinations, by comparing the price of 12 “typical tourist items” such as a 3-course meal for two, a cup of coffee and sun cream.
With the pound still strong against the rupee, Sri Lanka managed to cling to the top spot despite a whopping 21% rise in resort prices.
Vietnam, which experienced a 14% drop in prices and topped the Post Office’s Fastest Growing Currencies chart earlier in the year, was hot on Sri Lanka’s heels in second, with Bali in third, Mexico (the cheapest country in the Americas) in fourth and the Gambia in fifth.
