We’ve had the chilliest spring in 50 years and it’s felt like the stop-start British summer is just taunting us. Normally this would be good news for the travel industry, but the latest figures from ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) paint a different picture. With people forced to tighten their belts, holiday bookings have been falling year-on-year; a survey commissioned by Travelzoo last month showed that 67% of Brits have yet to book their summer holiday, which means the travel bosses are getting nervous.
This may sound like bad news, but for the frugal traveller, it couldn’t be better. In an attempt to reverse the downturn, travel agents are offering rock-bottom prices to try and get bums on seats and heads on pillows.
It means deals like a 4-star week in Sardinia, home to some of the most expensive real estate in the Mediterranean (according to The Independent), are up to 50% off. At £598 including meals, we think this trip would be a great opportunity to holiday with Europe’s elite.
If you fancy going further afield and holidaying like the glitterati, you can save £1000 on a week in Mauritius with your very own butler. The deal includes flights, accommodation in a 5-star suite and a spa treatment, plus daily breakfast, dinner and drinks.
If you can’t get away for a week, or even the weekend, get a taste of the Orient right here in the UK with this deal for a Japanese afternoon tea with sushi and a glass of fizz by the Thames.
