If you're planning to travel to the US in the next two years, you'll need to complete the mandatory ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) form online before 8 September to avoid a new $14 (£9) application fee.
All travellers are required to complete the form before visiting the US. ESTA is a web-based system that confirms travellers are eligible to visit under the Visa Waiver Programme. Applications must be made online and are valid for a total of two years or until your passport expires.
If you’ve already registered, you can avoid a $10 (£6) renewal fee if you extend your application before 8 September.
Although you won’t need to present your application at Border Control in the US, you will need to keep a record of your reference number, so it’s best to print a copy of the application and keep it safe with your passport.
