Sail from the UK

Figures released during National Cruise Week showed a rise in the number of people visiting UK ports, the departure points for cruises headed to destinations as diverse as Denmark, Amsterdam, the United States and the Canary Islands.

With a predicted 1.65 million people opting for sailings out of British ports during 2010, there is a great variety of cruises to attract both die-hard veterans and those who’ve never set foot on a ship.

Southampton is the departure point for the majority of UK outbound cruise sailings. Cunard’s range of liners, including Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2, depart from Southampton, with the latter taking you from the shores of Britain to the Big Apple in six days. P&O Cruises will take you across the Atlantic and on to the Caribbean, as will Royal Caribbean.

Christmas cruising
With Christmas around the corner, a host of Christmas market cruises are available with UK departures. Cunard sails to Amsterdam from Southampton, while Fred.Olsen will take you to Gothenburg and Copenhagen to experience the Scandinavian build up to 25 December. Cruise & Maritime offers voyages to Holland and Belgium from Tilbury.

Royal Caribbean departs from Southampton to Spain and the Canary Islands, offering some warm relief from the UK's winter chill.

Departures further north
If you don’t fancy a trip down to Southampton or Tilbury, there are also departures from the North. DFDS sails to Denmark and Amsterdam from Harwich and North Shields, while Cruise & Maritime can take you round Ireland from Liverpool.
