I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside: Brighton
With its pebbled beaches, a buzzing art scene and more bars and restaurants than you can shake a stick at, Brighton is a wonderful place whatever the weather. However, we particularly like April and May, when the city plays host to a string of festivals and events.
- Brighton Food and Drink Festival: Serving up scrumptious food and drink, it’s the largest festival of its kind in the South of England. The main event takes place in September, however a 10-day taster (known as the Spring Harvest) runs from 31 March-9 April. Highlights include the Brighton & Hove Restaurant Week, the Big Sussex Market and the fiery Chilli Challenge
- Brighton Marathon: This year’s race is on 16 April. It starts at Preston Park and passes through the city before ending at Madeira Drive along the seafront. The atmosphere in the streets is incredible plus it’s a worthy cause, with nearly 18,000 participants running for more than 300 charities
- The Brighton Festival: Celebrating music, dance, art, theatre, film and much more, this annual festival attracts people from all walks of life. Events run though May, and include the Artists Open Houses concept, when local artists open their homes to the public
