History has proved the British summer to be so temperamental but this year the country is rejoicing as we’re experiencing one of the hottest summers in recent years. So put on the sunscreen, whip out the sunnies and, men, proudly display your sock-and-sandal combo, and make the most of the heatwave with these days-out deals -- before the inevitable downpours begin.
Britain may not have the same number of white sand and clear water beaches as those of say, Bali, but our choppy seas are great for water sports. Have a go at surfing with this 2-hour surf lesson in Newquay for £15 instead of the usual £30. Or for a water-based adventure without the physical exertion, this £25 powerboat offer in Anglesey combines high-speed thrills with gentle sightseeing -- there’s even a chance you could spot dolphins.
If you’d prefer to remain on dry land, our offer of a Yorkshire Three Peaks guided walking tour for £22 will ensure you make use of both of your legs and the great weather. Over the 9-12 hours the tour takes, you’ll complete a circuit of Yorkshire’s three highest mountains, which reach an impressive 728 metres in height, and enjoy views of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Not quite so tall at 170 metres -- but still offering great views -- is Portsmouth’s landmark Spinnaker Tower, for which we’ve negotiated two tickets entitling you to admission, a cream tea and a souvenir photograph for £19.
Along with sunshine, the summer also brings the long school holidays. Keep the kids entertained for three of those many holiday hours with this park-keeper experience in East Yorkshire. For £25 instead of the usual £75, this deal involves meeting and feeding the wildlife park’s meerkats, and flying and handling birds of prey.
For the adults, a brewery tour (which includes a pork pie: hello!) in Lancashire for £13.49, or a celebrity-hosted wine event in North Yorkshire for £15, could be more appealing than fraternising with our feathered and 4-legged friends.
