As the summer holidays inch ever closer, Travelzoo has teamed up with some of the country's leading hotels to launch our Get the UK Swimming campaign. For the next two weeks, properties across Britain will be offering free access to their pools for families with kids up to 12 years old.
Participating brands include Puma Hotels Collection, De Vere Village Urban Resorts, Radisson Blu, Park Inn by Radisson and Hilton Hotels & Resorts.
So what prompted this campaign? Well, if you're a parent reading this, you might be surprised to discover that there's a one-in-three chance your child will leave primary school unable to swim.
That's according to recent research carried out by ITV's "Daybreak", which cited the rising cost of private swimming lessons, the closure of public pools and cutbacks in school swimming as reasons for parents being unable to ensure adequate provision of tuition.
Obviously that's a problem at the best of times, but it's brought more sharply into focus now, when most people are gearing up for the summer holidays. Sun, sand and sea are, for many, crucial ingredients in the perfect summer holiday, but it's hard to fully enjoy your getaway if you're concerned about your kids' safety. A survey we conducted found that nearly 90% of parents said their children being able to swim on holiday was important to them.
You should be able to find a participating venue in your area -- there are more than 35 locations offering free sessions until 16 June, with access available at a range of different times.
