Food, glorious food

Who doesn’t love a meal out every once in a while? But in these stringent economic times, eating out can seem like a bit of an extravagance. The sensible thing to do is stay at home with your beans on toast, right? Well no, perhaps not. The best thing we can all do right now is support our local businesses -- restaurants and food markets included. So here at Travelzoo, we’ve hand-picked some of the UK’s top foodie deals, so subscribers can enjoy top-quality grub while keeping a bit of spare change in their pockets.

The glorious summer weather won’t be here forever, so make the most of it and head down to London’s Battersea Park for the FEAST Foodies Festival. The 3-day event takes place from 16-18 August and features masterclasses from top chefs, a BBQ arena, pop-up restaurants and live music. You can get two tickets for £22 instead of the regular price of £44.

Continuing with the summer vibes, folks in the West Midlands have got the Stratford-upon-Avon Food Festival to get stuck into from 14-15 September. Two tickets are now available for the bargain price of £5, saving you 50% -- you really can’t go wrong! There’ll be stacks of treats for food-lovers, including a baking demonstration from Paul Hollywood ("The Great British Bake Off"), famed for his precision bread and precision beard in equal measure.

Also in the Midlands is an award-winning dinner for two at The Crown Country Inn. This 17th-century inn, located in Shropshire, has been praised for its "classy cooking" by The AA Restaurant Guide 2013. Experience its delights -- such as Moroccan confit of duck -- for only £29 per couple. Grab your voucher now and redeem it until 30 November.

Further north, the Hilton Hotel Blackpool is offering a £29 pre-theatre champagne dinner for two. You’ll receive a glass of champagne on arrival, a starter and a main for under £15 per head. This offer is valid until 18 December, so keep an eye on our local and entertainment deals in the Northwest and make a night of it.

If celebrity chefs are more your thing (and why wouldn’t they be?), then you can indulge in a 3-course dinner for two at Marco Pierre White’s Sydney Street Grill in Chelsea. This exclusive deal costs £59 instead of the usual £109. Or if it’s true luxury you’re after, then book into the Talbot Hotel in North Yorkshire and enjoy a gourmet meal in the celebrated on-site restaurant, run by James Martin ("Saturday Kitchen") -- the perfect venue for a special occasion.
