Five under £50, 6 April

You could be forgiven for thinking that we folks at Travelzoo Towers, given the sheer number of top travel deals we see, might occasionally get a bit blasé about the whole thing. You would of course be wrong. For example, when Megabus announces that it has cut the price of each-way coach fares to the likes of Paris and Amsterdam to £4.50, we’re spluttering on our corn flakes and choking on our cappuccinos with the best of them. Consider this: that’s 20p more than the standard price of a ticket between two London Underground stops.

Another week, another laughably cheap Ibiza deal: this one comes in at the equivalent of £33 a day and gets you three nights’ B&B at a 4-star hotel in the pretty fishing port of Santa Eulalia (a far cry from the kebabs and clubs of San Antonio, and within a short boat or car ride of some of the island’s best beaches). That price again: £33 per night. You could easily spend that at home. But then, you wouldn’t be in Ibiza getting a tan. And that would be foolish. Departs from London Stansted, Bournemouth, Leeds Bradford and Bristol on select dates in April and May.

For some people, the idea of being thrown about in a washing machine is right up there with being buried alive in a coffin that plays the music of Phil Collins on a continuous loop. For others, however, it’s quite the thing – particularly when said Washing Machine happens to be one of the rapids on Scotland’s River Tay, and you’re busy traversing it on a white-water raft. If you fall into the latter group, you’ll be pleased to know that the price of this half-day experience with Splash White Water Rafting has been halved – from £40 to £20.

Staying north of the border, it seems only fair that we balance all that adrenaline-junky carry on with something a little more refined. And what could be more refined than a stay in a Scottish castle? This 2-night deal from De Vere Barony Castle in the Scottish Borders includes over £85 in extras, and costs £44.50 per night, per person. As if the room rate wasn’t good enough already, you’ll also get full Scottish breakfast including haggis each morning, a 3-course dinner on one evening, a 2-course set-menu lunch with a glass of wine at the nearby Malmaison Edinburgh and two tickets to either the Royal Yacht Britannia in Leith, The Rosslyn Chapel (featured in the Da Vinci Code) or the hop-on, hop-off City Bus Tour.

A small selection of things that Italy’s Bay of Naples is known for: Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii, Sorrento, the island of Capri and the sprawling, chaotic city of Naples itself. Something it’s not known for: being cheap. Until now, that is. This half-price deal from the confidently named Majestic Palace Hotel in Sant'Agnello (on the outskirts of Sorrento), drops the price of overnight B&B stays to £49 in April, May and October. The good news doesn’t end there; as chance would have it, Thomson has cut the price of flights to Naples to £69, with departures from five UK airports and availability over the same date range. It’s getting harder and harder to think of a reason not to book this deal.
