£49 -- Dorset Jurassic Coast Hotel with Breakfast, 60% Off
A quick scan of our website reveals that hotel stays for less than £50 a night are pretty thin on the ground right now -- the fact that this 60%-off price is per room (meaning you pay £24.50 per person, per night) makes this offer even more enticing. Then consider the location -- Dorset’s Jurassic Coast is right up there with UK’s most stunning stretches of coastline. But don’t take my word for it -- just ask the dinosaurs. They loved it so much they all tried to live there; certainly the abundance of fossils in the area would tend to suggest so anyway. There’s a 2-night minimum stay on this deal, but then, once you’ve arrived, chances are you’ll be signing up for a lot longer than that.
£15 -- London: 'Blues Brothers' Hit Musical, Reg £29
Surprising fact number one: when the original "Blues Brothers" film was released in 1980, it held the record for the biggest number of cars wrecked during filming (103). This record stood until the filming of the sequel, "Blues Brothers 2000", 18 years later, during which 104 cars were written off. Surprising (and tenuously related) fact number two: ticket prices for "Blues Brothers… Approved", the musical that comes to the New Wimbledon Theatre this month, have been slashed by 48%. Top-price seats are now £15 instead of the usual £28.90 for this Dan Aykroyd-approved musical masterpiece featuring hits such as "Sweet Home Chicago", "Think" and "Gimme Some Lovin'". Hit it!
£51 & up -- Monarch Sale, up to £20 Off (Return)
First rule of Flight Club: you do not talk about Flight Club. Second rule of Flight Club: you do not mention that this one’s actually a pound over £50. Let’s just keep it between us and hopefully no-one will notice. The point is, when fares are this good, it’d be disappointing not to share them with everyone -- thanks to Monarch’s latest promotion, flights to the likes of Barcelona, Venice and Rome are now available from a selection of UK airports from £51, return. You see, some rules really are meant to be broken.
£25 -- Dinner for 2 at Times-Recommended Wiltshire Inn
Here’s a deal so good you could buy it twice and still sneak in bang on the £50 threshold. Squirrelled away in the Wiltshire countryside, the splendidly named Boot Inn is an 18th-century former coaching inn with open fires, which specialises in top pub grub. And now, for the equivalent of £12.50 a head, you can drop into this hidden gem for a glass of house red or white wine each, plus a starter and main each -- options include warm smoked eel served with crispy pancetta to start, and mains such as roast monkfish with savoy cabbage and clam casserole. And when you’ve finished off that little lot, why not head off to Stonehenge to walk it off? The prehistoric monument is just 10 miles away.
£43 & up -- Apartment Break in Nature Reserve, 30% Off
No doubt you’re wondering what the catch is here. Is said nature reserve tucked away in a barbed wire-encircled field bordering the M25 near Croydon? Actually, no -- the destination in question, the Formosa Park Apartment Hotel, is near the Algarve town of Almancil in the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve. And you might find that price even more surprising when we tell you it’s the per-person rate for a 3-night stay in a 1-bedroom apartment, including breakfast. It’s not valid in August, but with dates available all the way through until the end of October, that shouldn’t be a problem.
