Five of our favourite deals for £50 or less
The best things in life are free, or so they tell us. It might be true of many things, but it certainly doesn’t apply to a big, juicy, expertly cooked steak in a top restaurant. In fact, they’re so far from being free that they’re often excluded from discounted meal offers. Not any more! This deal for two from the Tiger Green Brasserie (within the Hilton London Green Park) includes a choice of either rib-eye or sirloin, with side dishes and champagne cocktails – all for £29. Not free, but as close as you’ll get without resorting to theft. And we don’t encourage that.
Little known fact: “The King’s Speech”, 2010’s all-conquering movie, was originally written as a stage play. Supplementary fact: it’s coming to the West End for the first time this spring, and Travelzoo subscribers can book top tickets in the Stalls and Dress Circle for £29.50 -- a hefty £25 off the regular price. This offer bags you top seats for Monday-Thursday evening performances (7:30pm), and Thursday afternoon performances (2:30pm) from 22 March until 12 April.
Once upon a time, the closest we got to eating canapés at home was a tray with two bowls on it: cheese and onion in one; salt and vinegar in the other. Here’s a chance to take things up a notch, with this canapé-making masterclass at Cafe Central in Matlock. Over the course of two hours, you’ll learn how to make magic mini morsels such as beef and cream cheese roulade, mini savoury pastries, blinis and cherry tomato BLTs. The price for this introduction to culinary excellence? A measly £19.
Now for a laughably cheap city break. The phrase “sent to Coventry” might not be the most flattering in the English language, but if it means being packed off for a night in a Grade II-listed manor house for the equivalent of £27.50 per person, with a room upgrade, breakfast, dinner, wine and spa access thrown in, then we’re all for it. So go on, send us to Coventry. Send us now!
Shhh… don’t tell anyone, but this last deal is actually £1 over the accepted threshold required to appear on this page (hence it getting sneaked onto the end of the blog post). The thing is, it’s so good, it would have been stupid not to include it. For the equivalent of £51 each, you and four friends can bag yourselves a seaside apartment just outside Valencia on Spain’s Costa Blanca. With a range of dates available from April to early June, it’s the perfect spring getaway for a bunch of friends.
