When that big yellow thing in the sky made a recent appearance, we have to admit we were sceptical. But gradually the umbrellas have been relegated to the cloakroom, the multiple layers of clothing have been shed and we have finally accepted that summer might just happen this year.
While the cost of a Mr Whippy has risen astronomically and the price of picnic-ware is at a premium, the good news is that taking a UK break has never been cheaper.
Save the hassles of airport security, the overpriced packages and the overpopulated swimming pools and pick up a bargain close to home this summer.
Whether you’re looking for a rural retreat, a city stay or a sojourn to the seaside, there are some great domestic deals to be had. We’ve found such treats as a 2-night Cheshire stay for £99 including meals and attraction tickets; a half-price break in Norfolk for £109 and a coastal escape to Cornwall for £99, with dinner and a room upgrade thrown in for free.
There are also some great offers on gourmet packages: snap up an overnight stay with 4-course dining and fizz for £119 in the Lake District; a 2-night Warwickshire break with a 2-AA-Rosette dinner and wine for less than £100 per person; or a deluxe Yorkshire break for two with dinner by celeb chef James Martin for £199.
Alternatively, kick back with a champagne afternoon tea while enjoying views of Hyde Park for a bargainous £25 for two.
With the heatwave set to stick around until August (fingers crossed), click here to see our pick of the UK breaks.
