Cruise Direct has released a mini cruise to Belgium in the Christmas market season for £141 per person. Regularly £209, this 2-night sailing to Antwerp includes all meals, snacks and evening entertainment.
The cruise is aboard Cruise & Maritime Voyages' Marco Polo and departs from London Tilbury on 18 December. The ship spends a day in Antwerp -- Belgium's "capital of cool", says Lonely Planet -- before returning to London.
Antwerp's Christmas markets, bustling with wooden chalets selling handcrafted trinkets and mulled wine, are held close to the city's cathedral. Expect to see street performers, carol singing and live music. There is also an ice rink next to the Brabo fountain.
The price is based on two sharing a Inside Standard Twin Cabin. Upgrade to a Standard Twin Oceanview for £199 per person. Click here for more information.
Writing about the Marco Polo, the 2013 Berlitz Guide to Cruising & Cruise Ships says, "As soon as you walk aboard, you feel a warm, welcoming, homely ambience." Facilities on this mid-size ship include two restaurants -- the traditional Waldorf Restaurant and the more informal Marco's Bistro -- and five lounges, including the Captain's Club and Palm Garden, with panoramic ocean views. There is also a library, a cards room, a wellness centre and an outdoor swimming pool. The ship operates a child-free policy with no passengers under the age of 16.
