"River cruising continues to boom, with dozens of new launches and ships being deployed," notes The New York Times. This 7-night Rhine sailing from Emerald Waterways on a brand-new vessel starts at £1195 per person, including £125 free onboard credit and a saving of £500.
Depart from London Heathrow, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester or Manston (Kent) on the following dates in 2015:
After arriving in Amsterdam, you'll settle in and then join the other guests for a welcome dinner. On the next day, you can take a guided walking tour of the city or explore at your own pace. Then you'll sail to Cologne, the oldest city in Germany. From there, you'll have a free afternoon in Koblenz before cruising through the Rhine Gorge to Rudesheim.
You'll follow the river to Mannheim, where the Rhine and the Neckar meet, and the Black Forest -- the setting of countless Brothers Grimm fairy tales. In the afternoon you're invited to a typical gasthof owned by a local family, where you'll eat lunch and learn how to make a Black Forest gateau. On the last day, you'll breakfast in Basel before returning to the UK.

Sister vessels Emerald Star, Emerald Sky, Emerald Sun and Emerald Dawn are launching this year. All cabins have a view of the river. Meals are served in Reflections Restaurant, as well as in an alfresco dining area at the bow of the ship.
There are two bars: the inside Horizon Bar and Sky Bar on the top deck. The ships have a heated indoor pool (with a retractable glass roof) that converts to a cinema in the evening.
You can upgrade to an Emerald Panorama Balcony Suite from an extra £500 per person.
