As summer approaches and the days get longer and sunnier in Northern Europe, the price of Norwegian fjords cruises go up. But if you look hard enough you can find a deal like this: £499 per person for two June sailings with 5-star Holland America Line, saving up to £550 on the brochure price.
This is the sort of discount we'd expect to find for early-season May voyages. Guests will sail aboard MS Ryndam, which departs from Dover on 1, 8 June. The special Iglu Cruise price includes accommodation in an Interior Stateroom, all meals and snacks and US$50 onboard credit per stateroom.
The first stop is Bergen, described by Frommer's as Europe's "most underrated city" and "enveloped by majestic mountains, the world's most spectacular fjords, and one of Europe's largest glaciers".
The trip then continues to Flåm after cruising down Aurlandsfjord, with stunning landscapes including plunging cliffs and waterfalls. Next is Ålesund (renowned for its art nouveau architecture) and Eidfjord, from where you can trek to Vøringsfossen Waterfall, which has a drop of over 180m. Before returning to Dover, the ship sails Hardangerfjord, one of the world's longest fjords.
Cruise International calls fjords sailings a "favourite amongst thousands of cruise enthusiasts, thanks to the long light evenings, unique scenery and charm filled ports of call".
With a teak wood promenade, a string quartet in the restaurant and museum-quality art pieces, MS Ryndam has a sophisticated feel. The ship has two pools, a spa with an ocean-view gym, a theatre with Las Vegas-style productions and duty-free shops.
Upgrade to an Ocean-view Staterooms for £100 more per person or to a Suite for £500 more. This deal also includes free parking in Dover with Ocean-view Staterooms and above. Click here for more information.
