The expression "trip of a lifetime" is bandied about pretty freely these days. But, we think that this 13-night deal from Jetline Cruise, including a luxury Alaska cruise, two city stays and a trip on the award-winning Rocky Mountaineer** for £1899 per person, deserves this title.

Why? First, we tried to put the offer together ourselves and we found it could cost up to £605 more. But, most importantly, it's a chance to experience popular cities and striking landscapes in one trip. Here's what's included:

  • Direct flights to Vancouver at the start of the trip; and back from Calgary at the end***
  • 4-star hotel accommodation in Vancouver before and after the cruise****
  • Admission ticket to the Lookout in Vancouver for bird's-eye views of the city
  • 7-night 5-star full-board Alaska cruise aboard Celebrity Century
  • 2-day luxury Rocky Mountaineer trip from Vancouver to Banff, including breakfasts, lunches and soft drinks
  • Two nights' hotel accommodation in Banff***** with free National Parks Pass

The price is based on travel from London Gatwick on 17 May. Travel on select dates in May and June are £170-£300 per person more, or in July and August are £500-£560 more. Most transfers (apart from hotel to cruise ship and cruise ship to hotel in Vancouver) are included. Click here for more information about the offer.

The 5-star Celebrity Century, which is a "gorgeously designed vessel with a truly modern flair" according to Frommer's, sails to popular Alaskan spots such as the Inside Passage, Icy Strait Point, Hubbard Glacier, Juneau and Ketchikan. Yahoo Travel describes Alaska as showcasing "nature's majesty on an awe-inspiring scale: soaring snow-capped mountains, vast stretches of verdant forest, calving blue-tinged glaciers, waters teeming with marine life, and wildlife including eagles and moose and bears."

The Rocky Mountaineer trip is split over two days to allow an end-to-end daytime ride. A hotel night in Kamloops in included in the price. The Daily Mail says: "The Rocky Mountaineer has climbed towards the top of one list of the Things To Do Before You Die", and adds, "Passengers gaze open-mouthed through scenic windows: in quick succession come deep, fast-flowing rivers and avalanche-threatened passes that seem uncrossable even as you cross them. There may be bits of scenery like this elsewhere in the world, but seldom do you see it like this, strung together in one massive symphonic work."

The price is based on accommodation in an Inside Cabin during the cruise and RedLeaf service on the Rocky Mountaineer. Upgrade to an Oceanview Stateroom from £200 more per person and to a Balcony Stateroom from £500 more. The SilverLeaf service is from £339 more and the GoldLeaf from £549 more.
