The southwest of the island is home to large tourist resorts, with high-rise developments, high-energy nightlife and cafes serving the ubiquitous all-day English breakfast. Playa de las Américas, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje are neighbouring resorts where the majority of this mass tourism takes place. Of the three, Costa Adeje is the most upmarket and has quieter beaches. There are a number of exotic animal and water parks to choose from.
To escape the crowds, head to the Parque Nacional del Teide where there are incredible volcanic rock formations and the highest mountain in Spain.
