Why Fly to Fort Lauderdale?

Fort Lauderdale has moved on a lot since the days when it was known as a spring break destination for rowdy teens. These days downtown Fort Lauderdale leans on its colonial past and tourists make a beeline for the classy Riverwalk Arts and Entertainment district just minutes from the seafront. As you stroll along the bricklined promenade you’ll encounter plenty of cultural attractions, restaurants, parks and shops. Look out for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The Museum of Science and Discovery which has its own IMAX cinema, the Florida Grand Opera, the Fort Lauderdale Historical Centre, the Stranahan House (built in 1901 by a Fort Lauderdale founding father for his bride) and the Museum of Art. You can use Travelzoo’s SuperSearch to find cheap flights to Fort Lauderdale.

Mini Travel Guide to Fort Lauderdale

While there is plenty of art, culture, shopping and nightlife to keep you busy in Fort Lauderdale, many come to the destination for its golden sands. There are 23 miles of sunny beaches in Greater Fort Lauderdale to chill out on, each beach with its own character and profile. Deerfield Beach, with its coves and volleyball games, is ideal for families. It also boasts America’s first cable water ski park Ski Rixen where you can glide along the waters on your skis without the need for a boat to pull you. At Hillsboro Beach it’s all about escaping the crowds, looking over to the blinking Hillsboro Lighthouse and communing with the sea turtles who go there to nest. Pompano Beach, which has the warmest waters thanks to a bend in the Gulf Stream, is a sports lover’s paradise and home to the annual Pompano Seafood Festival and Fishing Rodeo. At Fort Lauderdale Beach, get your rollerblades on and cruise along the promenade for the best people watching in town or head for Hollywood Beach, where you can idle up the two and a half mile Broadwalk, stopping for coffee at any of the numerous hip little joints along the way.
