Mini Travel Guide to Alicante

Alicante offers miles of sandy beaches that are accessible by foot or tram. Playa del Postiguet is the most central, but it does get accordingly busy. Playa de San Juan is a long beach that's often quieter and is easily accessible by tram. Other popular local beaches include Playa de la Almadraba and Playa de la Albufereta.

For superb views of the city and bay visit the Castle of Santa Bárbara (Castillo de Santa Bárbara), a medieval fortress which sits on Mount Benacantil overlooking Alicante. Archaeological remains dating from the Bronze Age, Iberian and Roman civilizations have been found on the hillside.
Alicante’s El Barrio (old quarter) is full of bars and cafes and makes a good spot for a drink. Alternatively, head to the Paseo Explanada de España, Alicante’s palm-lined promenade for a sundowner at one of its pavement cafes.

Beyond Alicante on the Costa Brava are many other tourist attractions including other lively coastal resorts and town such as Benidorm.
