Cornwall

With more coastline (over 400 miles) than any other county in Britain, a raft of Blue Flag beaches washed by some of the finest surf on earth, and more sunshine hours than anywhere else in the UK, Cornwall is rightly renowned as paradise for outdoors enthusiasts, and the UK’s stellar seaside destination. Little wonder it inspired us to create the guide, 101 Things to do in Cornwall.

Holidaymakers will find more than just sand, sea and surf though. This remote expanse of craggy land in the far southwest of England has magic secreted away in every corner – from the twisting cobbled lanes of chocolate-box ports like St Ives and Port Isaac, via the tropical domes of the Eden Project, to the wild expanses of Bodmin Moor.

Take time to uncover the area’s rich history too. The coast is dotted with reminders of the county’s past life as a tin-mining powerhouse. And for those who like to venture a little further back in time, there are links to Arthurian legend to be found here – most notably at Tintagel Castle on the north coast.

Foodies – lovers of seafood in particular – won’t know what to do with themselves. Choose from Michelin-starred restaurants or low-key beachside gems – either way, you’ll find that ultra-fresh local produce is easy to come by. And don’t forget to sample the other culinary treats for which this area is rightly famous – the Cornish pasty and the Cornish cream tea.

Weather in Cornwall

Cornwall is one of the very best places to enjoy a British seaside escape - that's not to say the sun always shines, but when it does, there are few places that can beat it. In summer, temperatures can reach the mid-20s (sometimes more). But don't be put off coming here in the winter - temepratures seldom drop below freezing and besides, there's something strangely pleasing about a blustery clifftop walk.
