$79 -- 'Food Lovers' Paradise' Dinner for 2 in Sonoma County

The Deal

Dubbed a "food lover's paradise" by the San Francisco Chronicle, the restaurant at Applewood Inn was awarded a Michelin star in 2011 and 2012. The restaurant pays homage to locally sourced produce and is praised by Fodor's for its "creative California and Mediterranean-influenced cuisine."

For $79, linger over three courses and a glass of wine at this intimate Russian River Valley inn. The restaurant relies heavily on seasonal ingredients, with many of the herbs and vegetables picked from the inn's own garden. Each diner can choose an appetizer, entree and dessert from the regular menu; some of the chef's current favorites include:

• Crispy pork belly with brown butter braised turnips
• A coco-crusted rack of lamb with grilled romano beans
• Locally sourced miso-glazed sablefish

The dining room, flanked by a soaring stone fireplace at either end, was built to resemble a French barn. The inn is a half mile from downtown Guerneville and close to several wineries in Sonoma's Russian River Valley. It's a 1.5-hour drive from San Francisco.
